BASIC - Part 116: In which we're hoping it's visual acuity is based on movement.  Tune in next week for some running away!

LET HERE$ = "JOHNNY"

BASIC - Part 115: In which Wyndham and Miriam have a little argument but soon find some common ground.

LET LUNATICS = ASYLUM: RUN

BASIC - Part 114: In which Miriam tries to get the attention of a humongous steam-belching robot monstrosity.  Her reasons are her own.

In other news, it's been a BIG week for BASIC. My humble little comic got an honourable mention on the excellent 'Weird Things' podcast, insofar as it was selected as Brian Brushwood's pick of the week.
You can listen to the podcast HERE.  We get mentioned at about the 1:07:35 mark :)
It's a really nice précis of the comic and sums it up better than I ever could. Anyway, I'm honoured... with a 'U'....because I'm British :)

ALSO, we have another side-bit: another little 'making of' with a special guest star (guess who?) and featuring the not-so fearsome Difference Engine in a car park on a plywood tower.  Anyway, it's HERE.

Have a great week!

LET I$ = "ANARCHIST"

BASIC - Part 113: That was a big robot wasn't it?  You wouldn't want to ..say.. wind it up.  Let's see what Miriam has in mind.

By the way, a very warm hello to all new readers and thanks to the excellent Brian Brushwood - host of the similarly excellent NSFWpodcast (and much besides) for making such a wonderful noise about my little comic - I'm really heartened.

GOSUB POINT

BASIC - Part 112: I'm going to stick my neck out and say that this is an important strip, Wyndham finally spots the pattern that has been emerging since the first time anyone opened their mouth in this story.  That said, he has commented once or twice on this before, but he's had a lot on his mind, bless him.

IF MAN$="SHARP DRESSED" THEN LET GIRL(EVERY)=CRAZY

BASIC - Part 111: Happy New Year everyone!  Maybe this is the year we'll get the flying cars and domed cities on the moon.  It's GOT to happen soon!  Ladies, if you could hurry it forward by wearing pointy silver foil bras, I'd appreciate it.

Ahem.... anyway, just a big one-paneller this week.  What else but the Difference Engine?  Now there's a massive machine you could take home to meet your mother.

IF DECEMBER=25 THEN PAUSE 1

Jolly holidays!  Since it's Christmas (you know - for kids!), there's no new BASIC this week. I'll be back next week and we'll all get a proper look at the Difference Engine.
Until then, have a smashing time!

INPUT FRESHAIR$

BASIC - Part 110: In which Wyndham begrudgingly goes outside.  Apparently the fresh air is 'good for you'.  Sounds dodgy.

LET CANT = ARGUE+THAT

BASIC - Part 109: In which Miriam decides to make up for screaming a while ago.  Her logic, however, is questionable.

FOR WHILE=1 TO WORK: BEEP 25,1: NEXT WHILE

BASIC - Part 108: Which details the return of Grisha's former tutor, Trofimov and his tearful reunion with Ranevsky.

No, wait - that's Chekov's The Cherry Orchard.  I our epic tale, a small band of robots is told to go away and do some work.
